All Filmmaker Labs and Roundtables take place in The Classroom at the Scottish Rite. Fillmmaker Labs are presented by the 2018 Filmmaker Advisory Board members (TFF Alumni filmmakers.)
Acting & Directing for the Camera presented by Laura Kirk
FRIDAY, OCT. 19 | 5:30PM - 7PM | Classroom at Scottish
A workshop designed for actors and directors alike - this session will teach actors how to listen and apply feedback from directors while performing on screen. In addition, Kirk will inform directors how to provide clear direction to actors in a way they’ll be able to understand.
Breaking into Indie Film presented by Savannah Rodgers

Savannah Rodgers (TFF Alumni 2017 & 2018) is teaching a masterclass on breaking into the independent film scene. The session will cover making the most of film school, local resources, grants, and the film festival circuit.
Savannah Rodgers is a narrative and documentary filmmaker based out of NYC and Kansas City. She is currently a TED Resident, a Board Member for Film Society KC, and a Narrative Shorts Programmer at the Slamdance Film Festival. In 2018, she was recognized with the Spirit Award by Kansas City Women in Film and Television.
Recently, Savannah’s short documentary debut DRAGTIVISTS won awards at the Tallgrass Film Festival and Twister Alley International Film Festival. Her short film SKETCHES premiered at the 2016 Slamdance Film Festival. Her directorial debut, POLITICALLY CORRECT, was named Cinema Constant’s 2016 Best Comedy Short and has received honors from Kansas City FilmFest, Austin Revolution Film Festival, and other festivals worldwide. Her upcoming projects include QUEEN FOR A DAY, a short comedy about marriage and drag culture, and a documentary on the 1997 film CHASING AMY.
Savannah is a 2017 graduate from the University of Kansas. While studying at KU, she was selected for the 2017 Telluride Film Festival Student Symposium. She is a former artist-in-residence at the Charlotte Street Foundation and creative fellow at Artist INC. Savannah’s goals as a filmmaker include becoming a showrunner, directing feature films, and starting her own film festival.
Finding Your Festivals presented by Skye Borgman

What happens when your film is rejected from a large-scale film festival (Sundance, Toronto, Tribeca)? Director Skye Borgman will touch on navigating through regional festivals and the benefits they provide: from networking to distribution opportunities.
Green Light Yourself presented by Deborah Riley Draper
SUNDAY, OCT. 21 | 1:30PM-3:00PM | Classroom at Scottish
Deborah Riley Draper will lead this session on returning to the hustle. Learn the ins and outs of DIY distribution and ‘finding your brand.’ Other points include marketing your project, the correlation between marketing and scriptwriting, and finding partnerships where you’d least expect it.

Film Festival Alliance’s signature Meet the Festivals is designed to create an open dialogue that increases the transparency between film festival professionals and filmmakers. Not only can festivals provide valuable insight for filmmakers; filmmakers can provide useful feedback to festivals. Join programmers from Tallgrass and other festivals to discuss the submission and selection process, and to share insights on how festivals can better serve filmmakers. Open to public.
