Ice-T takes us on an intimate journey into the heart and soul of hip hop with the legends of rap music. This performance documentary, an Official Selection of the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, goes beyond the stardom and the bling to explore what goes on inside the minds, and erupts from the lips, of the grandmasters of rap.

Recognized as the Godfather of gangsta rap, Ice-T is granted unparalleled access o the personal lives of the masters of this art form; a genre that he credits for saving his life. Interspersed with the performer’s insightful, touching and often funny revelations are classic raps, freestyle rhymes, and never before heard a capellas straight from the mouths of the creators. What emerges is a better understanding of, and a tribute to, an original American art form that brought poetry to a new generation.

The film features Afrika, Common, Doug E. Fresh, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Ice Cube, Kanye West, Kool Keith, Kool Moe Dee, MC Lyte, Nas, Q-Tip, Snoop Dog, Xzibit and Yasiin (formerly known as Mos Def) along with many more of rap’s most influential artists. The DVD, from Indomnia Films, will be released the week of the screening.

August: THE IMPOSTER

"This true story plays like a gripping psychological thriller, offering hard speculation and harder truths. You won't be able to get it out of your head.” – PeterTravers, Rolling Stone

Third Thursdays return August 16th with the critically acclaimed documentary THE IMPOSTER at Wichita Art Museum (1400 W. Museum Blvd.). The box office opens at 5:00 p.m. and the film begins at 7:00 p.m.

The Muse Cafe at WAM will offer a dinner for movie-goers beginning at 5:00 p.m., which will be reservation-only. All meals are guaranteed to be finished by 6:50 p.m., in time for the 7:00 p.m. film start. For dinner reservations please call The Muse (316) 268-4973.

A gripping thriller straight out of real life, THE IMPOSTER is an original film experience that walks the razor’s edge between true-crime documentary and stylish noir mystery. The twisting, turning tale begins with an unsettling disappearance – that of Nicholas Barclay, a 13 year-old Texas boy who vanishes without a trace. Three and a half years later, staggering news arrives: the boy has been found, thousands of miles from home in Spain, saying he survived a mind-boggling ordeal of kidnap and torture by shadowy captors. Director Bart Layton fuses confessional interviews, strikingly creative re-enactments and suspenseful storytelling into a film that asks the audience to play detective – as they ferret out the blurred evidence between a family who seems desperate to believe, a private investigator obsessed with resolution and a lonely thief whose only loot is human identities.

Tickets are $10 ($8 for TFA members, seniors, students, teachers, and military) and are available online at tallgrassfilmfest.com or at the door. There will also be a drawing for a VIP TALLPass ($175 value) to the 10th annual Tallgrass Film Festival October 18-21, 2012.
