“Local art-driven events like the Tallgrass Film Festival not only have a positive impact on Wichita’s economy but also add to the quality of life in this city.”
- Robert Redford

When Timothy Gruver founded the Tallgrass Film Festival in 2003 his vision was to celebrate film as a communal experience. He recognized that the people of Wichita would create the audiences required for this city to have a world class film festival of its own. Today the Tallgrass Film Festival is a world-reknowned event and was named one of the "Top 25 Coolest Film Festivals in the World" by MovieMaker Magazine.
We believe that independent film provides an exceptional platform to tell stories that are entertaining and need to be told, and we’ve seen these stories connect our community time and again over the last twelve years. Through the film festival, educational opportunities and partnerships with fellow organizations like Exploration Place, Wichita Art Museum, Botanica and Music Theatre Wichita, to name just a few, TFA strives to enrich our city’s cultural landscape.
TFA is a non-profit 501(C)(3) arts organization that relies on the support of sponsorship and individual giving – in fact, the majority of our funding is donated by those who recognize the value of supporting and sustaining the arts throughout the region. You all have an active stake in the past and future success of the Tallgrass Film Festival and the future of independent filmmaking in Kansas.
"From arriving at the airport, to being returned to the airport, there wasn't a moment at Tallgrass when I didn't feel wholly, and completely loved and appreciated. The dedication of the staff to not only treat filmmakers with the utmost respect, but to make sure we have a heck of a good time, was unparalleled. I will do everything in my power to keep creating and submitting films, if only just to have a chance to rub shoulders with the delightful locals and fellow filmmakers again in Wichita year after year. Thank you Tallgrass, for setting the gold standard in festival hospitality." - Justin Johnson, Director, DOUBLE DIGITS: THE STORY OF A NEIGHBORHOOD MOVIE STAR
